Program Description

Environmental Biotechnology (EnviroBioTech) is mainly focused on the understanding, manipulation and utilization of the potential of the microbial world for the improvement of environmental quality.

The program will be executed in English. The main research areas deal with population dynamics and modeling of biological systems, anaerobic treatment technologies, nutrient removal, morphological, physiological and phylogenetic characterization of microbial communities in environmental systems and biological treatment technologies for industrial wastewaters. The program consists of 5 core and 23 elective courses, making up a pool of 84 credits.

The MSc. Program in EnviroBioTech is a 4 semester program in which, the first 2 semesters are assigned for the courses. The EnviroBioTech MSc. student has to complete minimum 24 credits (min. 8 courses), which will be composed of 5 core courses (15 credits) and 9 elective courses (9 credits), non-credit complementary undergraduate courses (if required) and a non-credit seminar course. The last 2 semesters of the program are assigned for the MSc. Thesis, which will be based on advanced research in relevant EnviroBioTech fields.

The Ph.D. Program in EnviroBioTech is an 8 semester program in which, the first 2 semesters are assigned for the courses. The EnviroBioTech Ph.D. student has to complete minimum 24 credits (min. 8 courses), which will be selected out of 13 Ph.D. courses, 5 core courses (if required) and non-credit complementary undergraduate courses (if required). Upon the completion of the courses, the student has to succeed in the qualification examination, in order to propose a project for the thesis. The rest of the program is assigned for the Ph.D. Thesis, which will focus on an innovative scientific and/or technological research in EnviroBioTech fields.
